1-Day CPD: Treatment strategies for shoulder pain

Join us for a day of tangible acupuncture: theory and practical skills focusing on treatment strategies for shoulder pain. We are grateful to Andrew Nugent-Head from the Association for Traditional Studies for having introduced us to ashi treatment, a remarkably effective way of working with physical issues.

This day will build on the skills introduced on the day “Clinical Skills for ashi treatment” on 7th July by taking a closer look at shoulder injuries, and it is recommended that participants attend both. However, practitioners who are happy to jump in at the deep end are welcome to attend this day directly.

Programme:

-Theory of shoulder pain treatment strategies, focusing on diagnosis using the Sinew Channels and concepts relevant to Ashi treatment.

-Demonstration and partnered practice of relevant hand and needle techniques as used in the shoulder area (sparrowpecking, spreading needle technique, rubbing/pushing hand techniques, Spiral staircase and traction).

-Group DaoYin practice of the 8 Storing Qi and Developing Sensitivity Exercises to feed into our hand and needle skills.

-Case examples of treatment applications with different patient archetypes depending on health of Qi, Blood, and Spirit.

Who can attend?

-Qualified acupuncture practitioners who have attended CPD workshops or short courses either with us at Yi Dao Clinic or with the team at Miller’s Way. This is a great opportunity to apply previously learnt skills in patient situations. Recommended previous study: Clinical Skills for Ashi treatment

-Any qualified acupuncturist not yet familiar with this way of practising, who would like to jump in at the deep end. This is a solid introduction to Ashi treatment and the tangible way of working with Qi which is taught by the Association for Traditional Studies.

-Third-year acupuncture students on a BAAB accredited course who have an interest in working with pain conditions after graduation.

Teachers:

Conny and Zarig Cooper.

Conny and Zarig both attended Andrew Nugent-Head’s seminar series in London between 2012 and 2016. They have since been on 6 study trips to the Alternative Clinic in Asheville, USA, to observe the taught material being used in clinical practice. In 2018, they joined Andrew’s teaching team and started assisting at his European seminars. They both teach CPD courses in London and are dedicated to sharing ATS’s teachings of tangible, effective clinical skills with acupuncturists in the UK.
